Holiday and Winter Fun with Your Pet

Spending time with your pets during the winter holidays is a special treat. At Garden Valley Veterinary Center we want to suggest some fun holiday and winter activities for you and your pet that will create lasting memories.

Take Your Pet For A Walk During Holidays and Winter

Take your dog for a walk in the neighborhood to see the holiday decorations. Check the temperature before going and walk for shorter periods of time.  Purchase pet boots to protect the feet and some type of coat for very cold weather. For cats take them outdoors in the backyard and let them play. Supervise them when out and dry them off after you go back inside.

Buy Your Pet Some Gifts For Playtime

Choose some new gifts for your pet for the holiday. For cats, a combination retreat and scratching post center can be fun. A Starbarks Pumpkin Spice Toy will give dogs hours of fun during playtime indoors. Food puzzle toys provide your dog with mental stimulation during cold weather and or a specially designed leash for walking your dog is a great gift. Catnip toys make play fun for your cat and food treats for your dog and cat recommended by the vet make playtime extra fun.

Check Your Local Dog Park or Shelters For Special Activities for Pets

Many local dog parks and groups host activities for pets with games, obstacle courses, and special rooms for play for cats. Some organizations host fundraisers and fun walks. Scan the local paper and social media to find fun activities for your pet for the holidays.

Play With Your Pet Before Going Out to Holiday Party

When you know you will be out for a long time, have an intense play session with your pet inside or out. This way your pet will be tired and not bored during your leave.

Take Holiday Photos of You and Your Pet for the Photo Album

Photos create lasting memories of your activities during the holidays and winter.

Create a Retreat for Your Pet to Relieve Stress

Create a stress-free area away from guests where your pet can go to sleep, eat, and go to the bathroom. A special bed, toys, will provide your pet with comfort. The area should be private and away from the party or visitors.  Set rule with your guest about areas that are off-limits to them.
