Pet Vaccinations From Your Windsor Veterinarian

One of the most important measures pet owners can implement to safeguard the health of their pets is keep their vaccinations against disease up to date. Pets are vulnerable to a number of common diseases that can are transmitted by everyday contact with pathogens. These diseases can make your pet very sick and can even threaten the animal’s life. Regular vaccinations will keep your pet from becoming ill and will also avoid the costly veterinary care that will be needed to treat the animal. Your vet at Garden Valley Veterinary Hospital will advise you on the best ways to protect your pet from these common diseases.

Pet Vaccinations

Core Canine Vaccinations

Puppies begin getting a series of vaccines at the age of 6 weeks to 16 weeks. The core vaccines that are given to all dogs protect against parvovirus, distemper virus, adenovirus-2, and rabies. Vets generally advise that dogs receive annual booster shots against these diseases.

Non-Core Canine Vaccinations

Non-core vaccinations are those that are given to dogs that live in areas of the country where certain diseases may be prevalent or those that have special exposures. Vaccines against Bordatella bronchiseptica are given to animals that are frequently in boarding facilities or doggie daycare facilities. Vaccines against canine influenza, Borrelia burgdorferi and leptospirosis may also be advised in some circumstances. Your veterinarian will provide information on these vaccines for your dog when needed.

Core Feline Vaccinations

Recommended core vaccinations for cats include those against herpesvirus-1, feline calicivirus, feline panleukopenia virus, feline leukemia, and rabies. A series of vaccines is generally given to kittens starting at 3 weeks and ending at 16 weeks. Adult cats receive booster vaccinations each year.

Non-Core Feline Vaccinations

The vet may also recommend non-core vaccines for cats with special exposures. Animals that are frequently boarded should receive a vaccination against Bordatella bronchispetica. Your Windsor Veterinarian may also recommend vaccines against feline immunodeficiency virus, Chlamydia felis, and feline infectious peritonitis if your cat is at risk of exposure.

Testimonial

This is a quality veterinary hospital and boarding facility. It is nice to board at a relatively small facility where the staff actually get to know your pets.
