Dr. Joya was born and raised in Colorado Springs. She went to Colorado State University for her undergraduate and received her DVM from their College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences in 2017. She started out in practice in southern Wyoming working in a small mixed animal practice on cows, horses, dogs, and cats. She moved back to Colorado to be closer to her family and has been focusing on small animal medicine since then. Her main veterinary interests include pain management, rehabilitation, palliative care, and diagnostic imaging.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her menagerie of animals including her dogs (Jolene, Homer, Gordita, and Chalupa), cats (Sawyer and Sir Winston Pancakes), cow (Nemo), horse ( Nugget), and chinchillas (Stitch and Avalanche). She can also be found hiking, reading, or playing board and card games with her family and friends.
